ARK Group is a stabilisation and development company committed to empowering local communities and beneficiaries in conflict, post-conflict, and fragile areas through the provision of evidence-based programmatic interventions, policy recommendations, research and capacity-building. ARK’s approach combines mixed-methods research with strong, consistent engagement with local communities and stakeholders to bridge the gap between the aspirations of local communities and the priorities of governmental and multilateral actors, thus informing the design and implementation of relevant interventions. Utilising innovative quantitative and qualitative methodologies to generate data, we deliver, monitor, evaluate and learn from our programming.

ARK believes in enabling local communities to realise their aspirations and potential through the participatory design of projects and programmes that address the drivers and causes of conflict and instability. We are responsive and accountable to the communities we work in because so many of our staff and partners are from those communities.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

• Provide direct translation service to project team when required. Project documents for translation will include, but not limited to, project reports, correspondence and training materials.
• Ensure that the translation text is technically, linguistically and grammatically correct, error free and should meet high quality standards, and would not need further editing after completion of translation.
• Provide proper, clear and faithful interpretation during meetings and training, using standard and clear language.
• Interpreting with no additions or omissions.
• Check appropriate references to ensure proper use of the tactical and medical terminology.
• Complying with applicable ethics and standards.
• Imparting though purpose and spirit the emotions and tone of speakers from source language into target language.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, languages, translation or related field.

• Excellent Arabic and English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Valid driving license.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Proficient enunciation and pronunciation skills, and pleasant, professional voice.
• Proficient understanding of cultural sensitivity, and ability to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Good knowledge of medical and tactical terminology.
